Esports tournament organiser PGL has confirmed the return of its PGL DOTA 2 Wallachia tournament series, with three iterations announced for 2025.
This follows the first two seasons of PGL Wallachia which took place in May and October 2024. According to PGL, the two seasons were considered a ‘tremendous success.’
The three seasons will take place across 2025, the first of which is taking place in March. Qualifiers for the first PGL Wallachia of 2025 will take place in January. The second PGL Wallachia will occur in April with qualifiers in February. Meanwhile, the third event takes place in November with qualifiers in September.
Each season will have 16 participating teams — 10 invited and six from the qualifiers — competing for a share of its $1m (~£766,000) prize pool.
PGL also unveiled the ‘Hospitality Support’ that each team will receive for attending each event, which is listed as $450,000 (~£345,000) per event.
According to PGL’s announcement, each team will receive support for covering eight roundtrip flight tickets and accommodation for eight people per team (minimum four-star hotel). Moreover, there will also be a hospitality package for each team to cover food, beverages and snacks as well as a practice room for six people during their stay.
The news follows PGL’s announced 2025 and 2026 plans for CS2, with events in Buenos Aires, Belgrade and Barcelona to take place over the next two years. The tournament organiser also acquired key Esportal assets at the end of August, intending to create a globally available matchmaking service.
Silviu Stroie, PGL CEO, spoke on the announcement: “As the Wallachia series grows, we are committed to delivering an even more engaging and dynamic experience for the fans. We are grateful for the incredible support and enthusiasm from the community, and we look forward to raising the bar even higher in 2025.”
