If you are a fan of horror games, especially psychological ones, the name Karma The Dark World will probably not be new to you. We had the chance to try it in preview and we can say that we were pleasantly surprised by the game. If you want to know more, we invite you to continue reading our article.
An Evil Corp
Germany, 1984. Roam agent Daniel McGovern is busy shedding light on another case. However, something is different than usual. The line between reality and fantasy is truly blurred and trying to understand what is what is not easy. As if that were not enough, an evil corporation named Leviathan Corp has control over the entire population. How? With certainly unorthodox methods.
The corporation in question, in fact, has studied a drug to be taken by its employees, in order to subjugate them and make them more productive. There is no possibility of refusing. Anyone who decides not to submit to the administration of this drug will have to deal with death. However, the effects of this drug have a big impact on the psyche of people: demons and internal fears become “reality” and escaping from them is even more complicated.
An Heavy Bag
When it comes to games related to the psychological horror genre, many tend to be prejudiced and make comparisons with what can be considered the mother series of this genre: Silent Hill. But borrowing ideas, game mechanics from it, is certainly not a bad thing if you add a touch of novelty.
Karma The Dark World tries to do just that. From the very first stages of the game you can feel the Silent Hill vibes, but not only that. The game also seems to take inspiration (at least as far as the atmosphere is concerned) from games like The Evil Within and Layers of Fear. In short, the developers’ message is certainly clear: they want Karma The Dark World to become another psychological horror game that we will remember over time.
From what we have had the opportunity to see for the moment, it seems that the developers are on the right track. Although we have not had the opportunity to try the game in its entirety, the prologue and the beginning of the first chapter were enough for us to understand the quality of the game. The development team is made up of 20 people, all with many years of experience in the sector. And this is certainly something that has influenced the creation of a game that has nothing to envy the greats.
A Next Gen Game
Karma The Dark World can be considered a next gen game in all respects. Or rather, we should now say current gen. The graphics of the game are excellent, with the characters that are well defined. There are some small uncertainties, however, regarding secondary characters and environments, but nothing that can really negatively affect the gaming experience.
The sound component of the game is also of excellent workmanship. Every single noise has been conceived to try to make the player identify as much as possible with the protagonist, so as to have the sensation of experiencing his vicissitudes in first person. This is certainly an added value that makes our judgment of the game decidedly positive.
What We Expect
If this is the premise, Karma The Dark World has all the credentials to establish itself in the world of psychological horror games. The references to the greats of the genre (Silent Hill above all) are present, but the developers have been able to give the game its own identity, so as not to fall into the trap of being a “simple copy”.
We therefore expect that the full game will make us experience the same sensations that we have experienced now; keeping us glued to the screens to understand how the plot will end and what twists we will have to witness.
Ultimately, Karma The Dark World is a game that will most likely appeal to lovers of the genre, but if the promises remain such, it is likely that it will be able to go beyond and be appreciated even by those who are less inclined to this type of game. We just have to wait for the release of the full game to answer these questions.
