The Sims is coming to mobile with an all-new title, The Sims Labs: Town Stories, which has a listing on the Google Play store.
The Sims Labs: Town Stories is part of EA’s playtesting program, The Sims Labs, where those who sign up get the chance to playtest new ideas rolling out within The Sims franchise.
Last month, EA shared its upcoming plans for the massively popular simulation franchise with news that The Sims 5 wouldn’t be happening as the company decided to continue development of The Sims 4.
Sims on mobile… Again
EA already has two mobile games from the Sims franchise, The Sims Mobile and The Sims FreePlay. The difference between the two titles is that The Sims Mobile only offers one household for players to experience, whereas The Sims FreePlay offers a wider scale.
The Sims Mobile was released in March 2018 and topped the App Store charts. By July, the game had surpassed $20 million in revenue.
So, where does The Sims Labs: Town Stories fit in? It appears the game follows classic features that fans have come to expect, with the ability to experience “an all-new exciting building simulation game.”
The Google Play images show the ability to create a sim, interact with others and build and decorate a home.
Coming soon?
An early first look at gameplay has also surfaced on The Sims Community YouTube, which shows a ‘stories’ element to the game with story cards describing how your Sim came to town.
How EA intends to monetise the game remains unknown; however two types of currency can be seen in the Google Play images, one possibly being earned through playing and the second through in-app purchases.
The Google Play listing means a release may be right around the corner.
EA also recently announced it is partnering with Amazon MGM Studios and Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckChap, to produce a Sims movie, with ambitions of it being as big as last year’s Barbie.
