Jose Aldo talks about his UFC future ahead of his main event against Rob Font at UFC Vegas 44.

UFC bantamweight contender Jose Aldo is using new UFC light heavyweight champion, Glover Teixeira, as an example of his ongoing pursuit of another championship belt.

Aldo has rebounded nicely with back-to-back wins over Pedro Munhoz and Marlon Vera at 135 pounds. At the beginning of his transition to bantamweight from featherweight, he lost back-to-back high-stakes fights against Petr Yan and Marlon Moraes.

Aldo will face rising contender Rob Font at UFC Vegas 44 in a matchup of arguably two of the best strikers in the division.

During his UFC Vegas 44 pre-fight press conference, Aldo explained his drive to keep competing.

“If you look at Glover Teixeira, I’m still a kid,” Aldo said. “I want to continue doing this and I’m not going to stop until I get this title and I’m going to continue fighting at this high level.”

Teixeira defied the odds by beating Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight title at UFC 267, a task which Aldo is looking to replicate.

Jose Aldo is close to earning another shot at the bantamweight title

Aldo will face a tough test in Font, who most recently dominated former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt at UFC Vegas 27. The Font/Aldo matchup pairs up two elite strikers who could put on a potential Fight of the Year contender at UFC Vegas 44.

It’s been six years since Aldo last held a UFC title, after his long dominance at featherweight. He’s looking to continue his momentum at bantamweight and become a champion once again.

UFC Vegas 44 takes place on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who is on-site for all your news and highlights.
