It’s been a rough launch for Battlefield 2042, however, the future looks bright as the game’s first major update; Update #3, releases today.

It’s been a rocky launch, but after the first two bug fix updates, 2042 has finally felt stable this past week. Now, update #3 brings a number of quality of life changes, major fixes, and new game modes as Dice looks to fix the game’s launch issues.

Overview of what’s new

New “Weekly Missions” will make their way into the game. There will be a total of 3 varying missions each week, which can be tracked in the main menu. Completing a mission will reward you with player XP. Finish all the available missions that week, will reward unique cosmetics.

In Battlefield Portal, a new game mode layouts for Rush on any “All-Out Warfare” maps. Dice is also adding new templates to the Builder, and a new custom mode called Vehicle Team Deathmatch.

Lastly, Dice is adding a number of small changes to the custom rules editor in Portal. These are mostly behind-the-scenes changes, but they’ll improve the overall clarity of what’s going on during matches.

Quality of Life

Several improvements within the Collection screen menus to make customizing your loadout easier. It’s now also easier to understand which attachments are locked, in use, equitable, or newly unlocked within your Collection.

Changes to the UI are next on the list, with increased visibility and reduced clutter throughout. IFF (Identify Friend or Foe) marker improvements, and indicators for nearby players who you can revive or be revived by, or who are low on ammo or health. Lastly, you’ll notice smoother transitioning between game menus, the Options menu, and matchmaking.

Gameplay

BF 2042 will also get over 150 individual fixes, small changes, and improvements across all maps where objects were detracting from the gameplay. Such as spawning, visual glitching, or collision issues. Audio, rendering, and interaction improvements and fixes for weapons, vehicles, and Specialists are also included.

Dice has plans for smaller patches during December to fix other issues. Right now, BF 2042 is in pre-season, with the first full season and Battle Pass expected in early 2022. For now, EA Play members are receiving weekly “login rewards” for being part of EA’s subscription service.
