Even before its launch, we saw enough early access players unlocking Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 achievements for the game to break into the top 40 of our Xbox Gameplay Chart. According to TrueAchievements player data (which isn’t the same global Xbox data we use for our Gameplay Chart), Space Marine 2 is the biggest Warhammer 40K Xbox game to date.Space Marine 2 had more Xbox players in its first than any other Warhammer 40K gameWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launched on Xbox Series X|S and other platforms on September 9, selling over two million copies in its first two days. Players were able to jump in four days earlier if they purchased the game’s Gold or Ultra Editions, and during that period, we saw 5,817 TrueAchievements members unlock an achievement in the game. As for Space Marine 2’s release day, 20,514 TrueAchievements members unlocked an achievement on the same day, and by the end of its first week, that number had jumped up to 33,755.It’s an impressive feat, and it easily earned the game the title of the biggest Warhammer 40K Xbox launch ever. In second place is fellow co-op shooter Warhammer 40K: Darktide, which launched on PC in November 2022. Darktide managed to entice 13,336 TrueAchievements members to unlock an Xbox achievement during its first week, 7,178 players less than Space Marine 2 had on its first day. Darktide saw decent TA player numbers because of its launch into PC Game Pass, and it would have posted even higher figures if the console version hadn’t been delayed. We’ve seen numerous Warhammer 40,000 games launch on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in recent years, but it is Xbox 360’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine that holds the third spot on this list. Space Marine launched on Xbox 360 in 2011, seeing 8,456 TrueAchievements members unlock an achievement during its first week and kicking off a painfully long wait for a sequel.2021’s turn-based strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector slots into fourth with 8,770 TrueAchievements members unlocking an achievement during its first week, followed by Xbox Live Arcade’s 2011 shooter, Warhammer 40K: Kill Team in fourth with 6,608 players. and 2018’s action-RPG Warhammer 40K: Inquisition – Martyr in fifth place with 1,167.As for the final Warhammer 40K games on this list, things don’t look quite as impressive. 2023’s strategy game, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader only managed to see 463 TrueAchievements members unlock an achievement during its first week. Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemon Hunters, which launched earlier this year, was just behind Rogue Trader with 443 TA members. Warhammer 40K: Shootas, Blood & Teef follows with 360 players in 2022, and Warhammer 40K: Mechanicus saw 163 TrueAchievements members unlock achievements during its first week after launch in 2020. In the last spot on this list, 2020’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf trails with a woeful 66 players having unlocked an achievement during its first week. There you have it, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is the biggest Xbox launch for the Warhammer 40K franchise. Oddly, while many of the games on this list didn’t seem to pull in the launch week numbers, many of them are rated highly by TrueAchievements members. Perhaps Space Marine 2 is an anomaly for a niche franchise. If you fancy trying Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun or Darktide, both games are available in Xbox Game Pass — or check out one of the best games on Game Pass for a change of pace.
