The Thunderpick World Championship, a global Counter-Strike 2 circuit operated by cryptocurrency betting platform Thunderpick, has unveiled the format and location for its 2024 finals.
The tournament will conclude with a two-day event starting on November 2nd in Berlin, Germany.
Participating teams will compete in an online group stage running from October 21st until October 25th to determine the quarterfinalists who will play on October 26th. The group stage follows six qualification rounds open to teams in Europe, North and South America.
The 2024 edition of the Thunderpick World Championship is the second year for the tournament after hosting the inaugural event that ran throughout the majority of 2023 in the form of online and LAN competition.
2024’s tournament sees 16 teams from around the world competing online and at Berlin’s LVL World of Gaming venue for a share of $1m (~£764,482) in prize money. According to a release, the prize pool is ‘the highest sponsored by a bookmaker to date’.
Thunderpick is no stranger to operating esports tournaments. In June 2024, the platform joined forces with esports organisation HEROIC to create the Path to Pros Counter-Strike 2 tournament, enabling amateur players to compete for prize money and a chance to play alongside professional players.
Kelly Sanders, Head of Strategy at Thunderpick, spoke on the news: “The Thunderpick World Championship 2024 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting tournaments of the year.
“With the calibre of teams and record-setting prize pool, we can expect intense competition and high-quality gameplay that will captivate fans and players around the world.”
