How Streams Charts’ Geolocation feature can be used on esports streamers

Streaming and analytics platform Streams Charts has announced a new geolocation feature for its data tool.

Going forward, the new function will allow brands and streamers to get more detailed and automated geolocation statistics.

According to a release, this feature will be available across over 100,000 streamers — across gaming and esports — and aims to provide a more precise tracking experience.

The company’s data covers all statistics starting from January 1st, 2024, and is updated in real-time, providing access to percentages of audience size from different countries. This data is available on Twitch, however, it only provides info on the top 15 countries.

Streams Charts’ new feature also provides additional insights and filters streamers based on various criteria, facilitating brands and sponsors when researching influencers.

Nazar Babenko, Product Manager at Streams Charts, shared some insights with Esports Insider on how the new feature has allowed the company to get a clearer picture of some of the most influential streamers when it comes to gaming and esports. All figures shared are from data collected between July 29th to August 27th.

“It doesn’t always happen, but both former pro players who are now focused on streaming, Slovenian Tim ‘Nemesis’ Lipovšek and Swede Henrik ‘AdmiralBulldog’ Ahnberg have a significant portion of their audience in the EMEA region, while active players such as Moroccan Amine ‘johnqt’ Ouarid and Indonesian Jason ‘f0rsakeN’ Susanto dominate in Asia,” he explained.

“However, if we dive deeper into the geography of their Twitch channels, the largest segment of the audience for lol_nemesis (Nemesis) (11.4%), johnqtcs (18%) and AdmiralBulldog (9.8%) are located in the USA. In contrast, PRXf0rsakeN (f0rsakeN) has the largest segment of its audience in Japan (13.5%).”

Before joining Streams Charts, Nazar worked for tournament and matchmaking platform Esportal AB where he also built an influencer marketing strategy based on live streaming stats and analytics.

Focusing on esports streamers, Babenko revealed that US viewers are significantly more engaged with MOBA content than Shooters. By looking at the average daily view duration, streamers like Nemesis (31 minutes) and AdmiralBulldog (25 minutes) scored much higher numbers compared to johnqtcs (18 minutes) and PRXf0rsakeN (16 minutes).

Streams Charts’ new feature also captures other metrics such as the percentage of viewers using VPNs, giving indications on how much international audiences bypass geographic restrictions, and viewer retention by country.

Babenko added: “Examining viewer retention by country reveals that PRXf0rsakeN is an outlier, with 60% of Japanese viewers watching less than 2 minutes of the stream. Among US viewers, johnqtcs shows the highest drop-off rate, with 51.9% watching less than 2 minutes, followed by AdmiralBulldog at 43.3% and lol_nemesis at 30.9%.

“This suggests that Japanese viewers are less engaged with PRXf0rsakeN’s streams, while American viewers also exhibit significant short-term viewing on some channels.”
