Capcom mainstay Hideaki Itsuno has confirmed his intention to leave the Japanese developer after over 30 years, with a view to starting development on a ‘’new game in a new environment” in September.Releasing a statement on X, (formally known as Twitter) Itsuno-san announced the surprise news by saying: ‘’At the end of August 2024, I will be leaving Capcom after 30 years and 5 months. Thank you for your long-term support of the games and characters I have been responsible for.”Initially cutting his teeth with fighting games such as Star Gladiator and Rival Schools: United By Fate, Itsuno-san quickly rose up the ranks within the Osaka-based developer, going on to direct the fan-favourite Dreamcast sequel Power Stone 2, before hopping between genres with the likes of One Piece Mansion and Auto Modellista. He then took over as director during the tumultuous development of Devil May Cry 2 and after being unhappy with the final product requested that he be installed as the director of the next entry from the get-go.Having had his wish granted, Devil May Cry 3 proved to be a return to form for the series and Itsuno-san remained in the director role for every subsequent sequel. More recently, Itsuno-san has been known for his work with the Dragon’s Dogma series, having directed the second entry which released earlier this year. What are some of your favourite games from Hideaki Itsuno?
