We hope you’re having a good time battling evil puppets on the streets of Krat in this month’s TA Playlist game, Lies of P, but August is nearly over, so it’s time to announce the September 2024 TA Playlist Game of the Month. This time of year means an end to the summer and the start of a new school year for much of the world (or at least, much of the northern hemisphere), so we decided to take the TA Playlist Back to School as well, offering up four nominees that feature schools as a major part of their settings. The nominees included Persona 3 Reload, Hogwarts Legacy, and Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, but the game that ended up at the head of the class this month was none other than South Park: The Stick of Truth! The fourth time’s the charm for this turn-based RPG featuring the foul-mouthed cast of elementary school students from the hit TV show South Park. Stick of Truth was first nominated for TA Playlist back in March 2019, where it came in third, followed by second-place finishes in February 2022 and May 2023. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, Stick of Truth was originally released for the Xbox 360 in 2014, and then re-released for the Xbox One in 2019. The Xbox 360 version has been removed from the Microsoft Store, but it will still count for participation if you’ve already got a copy. The Xbox One version is available on Ubisoft+.From the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, comes an epic quest to become…cool. Arm yourself with weapons of legend to defeat underpants gnomes, hippies, and other forces of evil. Discover the lost Stick of Truth and succeed in earning your place alongside Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny as their new friend. Fail, and you will forever be known as a loser.South Park: The Stick of Truth has a strong TA User rating of 4.48/5.00, with almost 209,000 users unlocking at least one achievement in one of the two versions. Around 19,000 tracked gamers (just under 10%) have completed one version or the other. Each version has 50 achievements, with an estimated completion time of 15-20 hours, though the walkthrough by Quickdraw1988 might help you find every friend, collect all the Chinpokomon, and unlock all the achievements. Here’s the full breakdown of the votes. Hogwarts Legacy jumped out to the early lead, but South Park caught up after a few days. It was a bit of a back-and-forth battle over the weekend, but Stick of Truth eventually got out to a 15-20 vote lead and held on for the victory. As always, you can earn your TA Playlist badge by unlocking any achievement in either version of South Park: The Stick of Truth during September or by posting a substantive comment in the Spoiler and Spoiler-Free threads that will be posted on September 1. Even if you’re not planning to play the game, you can join in the discussion on the TA Playlist Hub to discuss your adventure in South Park!
