As Black Ops 6 unsurprisingly won’t let you carry over camos from MW3, you’re going to be incredibly busy unlocking the litany of fresh cosmetics available when the Black Ops 6 release date finally arrives. As with MW3, there’s a lot going on when it comes to BO6 camos, so we’re here to break it all down and teach you how exactly to snag those shiny skins when the FPS game arrives.
Black Ops 6 camos explained
With the introduction of Warzone camos, for the first time, you’ll be able to earn Black Ops 6 camos across the base game, Zombies, and the battle royale game. Camos fall under three tiered categories: military, unique, and mastery. Each category has to be cleared before you can move on to the next one for a weapon. For example, you won’t be able to start earning the unique XM4 camos until you’ve unlocked all of the military ones for it, and so on.
In Black Ops 6 there are nine military, two unique, and four mastery camos per weapon. Across all three CoD games that triples to 27 military, six unique, and 12 mastery camos – sheesh. As with MW3, though camos have to be unlocked in a specific game, they can be used across BO6, Warzone, and Zombies once earned. Below, we’ve detailed not only how to unlock the camos, but we’ve also listed all of the mastery camos you will be able to grind for in each game.
How to unlock BO6 military camos
- Complete nine weapon milestones – one per camo. These are typically headshot-related, though there are different criteria for knives, launchers, and shotguns.

- Complete the nine military camo milestones for your desired weapon.
- Complete the two unique camo challenges – one per camo – in any order.
- Unique camo challenge criteria are based on the playstyle of the weapon.
- Unique camos can only be earned with their specific weapon. However, once unlocked they can be applied to any other weapon.
How to unlock BO6 mastery camos
Black Ops 6 multiplayer mastery camos can be considered a tier system within a tier system. In BO6 multiplayer, for example, Gold can be considered the easiest to unlock, while Dark Matter is the most elusive. As with the general camo system, you’ll have to unlock the first camo before you can move on to the second, and so on.
The CoD team has yet to confirm what these mastery camo challenges will involve for each game, but expect them to be slogs that will take some serious hours to complete.
- Gold – Unlock all military and unique camos for the weapon in BO6 multiplayer and complete the subsequent Gold camo challenge.
- Diamond – Unlock Gold camo for all weapons within the weapon’s class in BO6 multiplayer and complete the subsequent Diamond camo challenge.
- Dark Spine – Unlock Diamond camo for all weapons in BO6 multiplayer and complete the subsequent Dark Spine camo challenge.
- Dark Matter – Unlock Dark Spine camo for all weapons in BO6 multiplayer and complete the subsequent Dark Matter camo challenge.
- Gold Tiger – Unlock all military and unique camos for the weapon in Warzone and complete the subsequent Gold Tiger camo challenge.
- King’s Ransom – Unlock Gold Tiger camo for all weapons within the weapon’s class in Warzone and complete the subsequent Diamond camo challenge.
- Catalyst – Unlock King’s Ransom camo for all weapons in Warzone and complete the subsequent Dark Spine camo challenge.
- Abyss – Unlock Abyss camo for all weapons in Warzone and complete the subsequent Dark Matter camo challenge.
- Mystic Gold – Unlock all military and unique camos for the weapon in Zombies and complete the subsequent Mystic Gold camo challenge.
- Opal – Unlock Mystic Gold camo for all weapons within the weapon’s class in Zombies and complete the subsequent Opal camo challenge.
- Afterlife – Unlock Opal camo for all weapons in Zombies and complete the subsequent Afterlife camo challenge.
