Women-focused gaming and esports community platform the*gamehers has received an undisclosed investment from investment firm Dunhill Ventures.
The investment will allow the*gamehers to accelerate its growth by elevating its app, increasing its reach and improving its offerings.
In a press release, Dunhill Ventures describes itself as an investment firm ‘focused on supporting companies that are committed to creating a more regenerative and equitable world.’
Moreover, Piers Dunhill, Chairman of Dunhill Ventures, commented on the investment into the*gamehers: “Dunhill Ventures is committed to investing in companies with a core focus on impact investing, aiming for a more regenerative and equitable world.
“the*gamehers is driving innovation in the video game industry, led by a proven leadership team. They’re a natural fit for our portfolio of companies.”
Dunhill did not disclose any information regarding the size of the investment.
Since its foundation in 2019, community platform the*gamehers has been dedicated to driving representation and creating opportunities for women within the gaming community. Through its community spaces and several initiatives, the organisation supports women gamers in their education, career development and entrepreneurial ambitions. the*gamehers also hosts an award to highlight and acknowledge the accomplishments of women in the gaming industry.
This year, the*gamehers signed partnerships with online eyewear retailer Zenni Optical and esports crypto betting company Thunderpick, the latter of which has already been extended into 2025. Moreover, the community platform will join ESI Events’ flagship event in Lisbon as a Supporting Partner. As such, the*gamehers will deliver a special edition of the PowHER Play Social event at ESI Lisbon.
Throughout 2024, the esports and gaming sectors have seen numerous investment and funding developments. Notable personalities, such as former Arsenal footballer Nicklas Bendtner and former Ninjas in Pyjamas COO Jonas Gundersen, have launched investment firms.
Some of 2024 significant investments so far include Disney’s $1.5bn (~£1.1bn) investment into Epic Games, Saudi Arabia‘s $120m (~£91.7m) esports and gaming investment fund, as well as the $11m (~£8.4m) investment secured by GameSquare’s recently-founded FaZe Media.
