Canadian technology company TELUS has announced a partnership with Android for its North American open esports competition, the TELUS Esports Series.
According to a release, the tournament will see North American players aged 15 or above compete across Apex Legends, Rocket League, and VALORANT for a chance to win a share of the CAD $50,000 (~£28,200) cash prize pool.
The tournament is open for all levels of play as the esports series is intended to enable players of similar skill levels to compete with one another. The tournament will begin with a four-week seeding period by using Open Qualifiers to determine their level of competition.
Following that, players will be seeded based on skill division into the playoffs which will qualify for the Finals event and allow qualifying players to compete for prizes. Registrations began on August 12st and will end on September 22nd.
First launched in 2021, TELUS has created gaming events in the Canadian territory by utilising its expertise in telecommunication services. During the 2023 edition, TELUS collaborated with leading gaming brands such as Samsung, Logitech, Astro Gaming and Skullcandy.
Aside from the new partnership with Android, this year’s edition also marks the latest addition of VALORANT to its pool of game titles. On top of the competition, TELUS is looking to launch its digital literacy program, TELUS WISE, with the goal of offering tips and tricks for healthier gaming habits.
Tanya Madan, Global Marketing Director of Android, commented: “The gaming community continues to grow, and the TELUS Esports Series unites players from all over Canada and the US.
“Android is ecstatic to be a part of this exhilarating movement, partnering with TELUS’ Esports Series to showcase how Google on Android and Gemini can unlock new opportunities for gamers, making gaming more accessible and inclusive for everyone.”
