Weekly poll results: the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus struggles to justify its higher price

Last week we asked your opinion on the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus. It was already available in the UK and since then it launched in India too. Let’s have a look at how the poll went.

The Plus model is £50 more for a 12/256GB unit in the UK and ₹2,000 more in India for an 8/256GB unit. And that’s the difference if you look at MSRP, the regular 2a phone has been around for a while and gets discounted often enough, which makes the price gap even larger.

And so, unsurprisingly, many think that the new phone is too expensive for what it offers. Nothing switched to a different chipset to offer higher performance, but the chip will have to prove itself in reviews. The company also upgraded the selfie camera to a 50MP unit capable of 4K video capture. This is another unknown – reviews can really swing the opinions about this phone around.

Nothing is a young company and is still building out its distribution network. This means that some regions are left out – even a major market like the US only gets a “beta” program with spotty carrier support. That’s not a huge issue yet, but it will become a pressing matter the longer that Nothing ignores it.

For the majority of voters in the poll, the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus isn’t the best mid-ranger that they can spend their money on – even the regular Nothing Phone (2a) is a better deal, plus all the brands that compete in this segment.
