FIFAe, the esports division of football governing body FIFA, has announced its first-ever multi-title football esports event that will take place in Liverpool, from 28th August – September 1st.

The event will include two football-themed esports, the first is Sports Interactive developed Football Manager and the second is eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer.

In order to host the event FIFAe has partnered with tourist information company VisitLiverpool, making the company an official sponsor of FIFAe Next Gen 2024. Specifally the event will be held in the Exhibition Centre, Liverpool.

The FIFAe World Cup featuring Football Manger will take centre stage at the event. For the first time ever 20 managers will represent their own nation and compete against one another to win a share of the $100,000 (~£78,000) prize pool.

FIFAe previously announced the Football Manager World Cup event, but due to further alignment with stakeholders for this first test event some of these details have changed. Interestingly, FIFAe Next Gen will not feature the FIFAe World Cup featuring Rocket League, which was announced in June.

The Football Manager event will also have additional content streamed at the event, including on the final two days of competition where football YouTuber Spencer ‘SpencerFC’ Owen will host a dedicated show on all things football, tactics and Football Manager. This show will be streamed across FIFAe channels.

Alongside the Football Manager event, FIFAe will host the FIFAe Fame Your Game Cup. This will be a showcase of eFootball Mobile where local players are invited to compete in a qualifier on the 29th August for a chance to play against some of the best global players the next day.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region commented on the announcement, stating: “As a city that lives and breathes football, loves bringing people together and relishes putting on big events, we’re delighted to be welcoming the first FIFAe Next Gen event to Liverpool.

“We are home to a vibrant and growing digital and gaming sector with strong esports credentials. This will be a fantastic opportunity to establish our city as a long-term host for the esports industry, boosting the local economy through tourism, hospitality, and retail.”

The countries representing the Football Manager event are as follows: Belgium, England (Two seats as hosting nation), France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Korea Republic, Lithuania, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and Türkiye.
