Lincoln Riley has been part of rumors that he’ll be the next LSU football coach but, even after Oklahoma’s Bedlam loss, he was quick to shoot them down.

Whether it was the pipe dream of LSU football fans or something with some actual meat on the bone, the rumors have been swirling lately that current Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley will be the next head coach of the Tigers after the program decided to part ways with Ed Orgeron.

And after the Sooners lost Bedlam against rival Oklahoma State on Saturday night for the first time since Riley took over, the buzz around the potential move to Baton Rouge only continued to grow, especially with a multitude of jokes getting fired off

When talking to the media after the game, though, Riley was direct and emphatic about his future and the fact that it does not involve him coaching LSU football.

Now, it should be said that college football coaches have lied many, many times before and will continue to do so for centuries to come — it’s part of the game.

However, the Lincoln Riley to LSU rumors have always felt a bit flimsy. Riley has developed something quite impressive in Norman since he took over for Bob Stoops, even if he’s in a minor skid over the last two seasons (a skid that only includes four losses over two years). A move to the Tigers would be a massive risk on his part.

Subsequently, LSU fans might want to get their hopes up about someone else. That’s not saying that Riley’s word is in stone because, again, this is a lying game in the college coaching world. But based on simple logic, it has always and still appears unlikely.
