Microsoft’s earnings report for FY24 Q4 share some interesting stats when it comes to Xbox and gaming in regards to hardware sales and gaming revenue, while chairman and CEO Satya Nadella reports “over 500 million monthly active users across platforms and devices.”Microsoft discusses Xbox hardware and gaming revenue in latest earnings reportCFO Amy Hood explains that gaming revenue increased 44% “with 48 points of net impact” from Microsoft’s Activision acquisition, while Xbox content and services revenue, up by 61% with 58 points of net impact from the acquisition, was “slightly ahead of expectations.” On the other hand, Hood says that “stronger-than-expected performance in first-party content was partially offset by third-party content performance.” Things aren’t as positive on the Xbox hardware side, either, with revenue there decreasing “42% and 41% in constant currency.” Nadella, meanwhile, adds that when it comes to gaming, Microsoft has “over 500 million monthly users across platforms and devices” and that their “content pipeline has never been stronger.” Nadella covers some of the biggest Xbox news we’ve had recently, such as everything announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, as well as the fact that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available with Game Pass. Nadella also mentions the impact of the highly-praised Fallout TV show which arrived on Amazon Prime earlier this year, and says the “hours played on Game Pass for the Fallout franchise increased nearly 5x quarter-over-quarter.” Indeed, here on TrueAchievements we saw a 210% increase in Fallout 4 Xbox players alone after the TV show came out. It’s an interesting glimpse into where Microsoft and Xbox stand, especially since some of the latest moves from Xbox have been criticised for a lack of clarity, for instance when it comes to the future of Xbox exclusives and the somewhat-confusing announcement of a Game Pass price hike and a new Xbox Game Pass Standard option.
