The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has announced a new initiative that aims to bring together the gaming community for social good.

The Global Social Impact Initiative (GSII) will see the GEF — along with an array of partners — set up a series of programmes and initiatives. According to a release, these projects aim to enable ‘social impact’ whilst ‘contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.’

The GSII will launch with the backing of the GEF’s Global Impact Partners, which have committed to support the programme through a multi-million-dollar, multi-year pledge until 2030. Partners include PC hardware manufacturer Intel, sport governing body Commonwealth Sport, and Infinite Reality, the owners of Rogue and Carolina Royal Ravens parent company ReKT Global, amongst others.

As per a release, the GSII will focus its efforts on several key areas including digital transformation, education, environmental sustainability, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and wellbeing, universal connectivity and youth employment. It aims to do this through ‘a series of targeted initiatives and calls-to-action’ and hopes to leverage the reach of its partners to enact ‘meaningful change’ in its areas of focus.

The initiative was announced at the UNESCO “Change the Game” conference held as part of the ongoing Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France.

On the new initiative, Thanos Karagrounas, Chief Impact Officer at the GEF, commented: “The launch of the Global Social Impact Initiative is a pivotal moment for the Global Esports Federation and the entire #worldconnected community.

“By harnessing the power and reach of gaming and esports, we aim to create lasting, positive change across various spheres of society. Our Global Impact Partners play a crucial role in this mission, and their commitment underscores the potential of collective action in driving progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
