Indie publisher Humble Games makes layoffs amid “restructuring”

Humble Games, the publishing arm of Humble Bundle owned by IGN parent corporation Ziff Davis, has announced a major restructuring, which has resulted in around 36 layoffs. While it was originally thought the publisher would be closed, leaving ongoing projects hanging in the balance, Humble Games says upcoming releases will not be impacted. “In these challenging economic times for indie game publishing, Humble Games has made the difficult but necessary decision to restructure our operations,” the publisher said in a statement on X. “This decision was not made lightly; it involved much deliberation and careful thought, with the goal of ensuring the stability and support of our developers and ongoing projects. Additionally, the restructuring of operations at Humble Games will have no impact on operations at Humble Bundle.Humble Games says upcoming releases are not affected”We are acutely aware of the profound impact this decision has on our team members at Humble Games and deeply empathize with everyone affected. Our team’s contributions have been world-class and invaluable, supporting the launch of our games since we started publishing in 2017. It is deeply appreciated.”Humble Games has been a prolific supporter of Xbox Game Pass, bringing titles such as Slay the Spire, Signalis, Wandersong, Unpacking, Supraland, and many more to the subscription service. In fact, out of the 39 titles Humble Games has published on Xbox, a whopping 32 of them have been included in Xbox Game Pass.As for ongoing projects, a Humble Games representative confirmed to PSU that despite the restructuring, “Ongoing projects and upcoming releases are not affected and will continue to be supported and published by Humble Games.”Coral Island, another Xbox Game Pass title published by Humble Games, has just received a major update that overhauls several areas of the game.
