Blackmagic Camera app updated with new features, OnePlus and Xiaomi phone support

Last month Blackmagic Design, a popular maker of cinema cameras, announced an Android app that can record H.264 and H.265 video and integrates with the company’s DaVinci Resolve video editor and related cloud services. Version 1.0 only worked on select Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones.

Now the company is rolling out Blackmagic Camera 1.1, which adds more devices to the supported list and adds a host of new features. With v1.1, the app supports Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a, Samsung’s Galaxy S21 and S22 series, the OnePlus 11 and 12 and the Xiaomi 13 and 14 series.

The key new features are HDMI monitoring, pull focus transition controls and improved Blackmagic Cloud organization. You can also now store clips to external storage. Here is the full changelog:

Login account within Blackmagic Cloud.
Ability to dim screen while recording.
Optional image noise reduction.
Optional image sharpening.
Audio level pop-up.
Japanese translations.
Ability to not generate a proxy while recording.
Save clips to any location including external storage.
General performance improvements.

You can find the Blackmagic Camera app on the Google Play Store. It’s completely free to use and DaVinci Resolve is free too (there is also a more capable version for $295).
