The Role

The RPAS Sector Unit have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Support Officer to join the team as a Technical Support Officer, you will support our Surveyors and Inspectors in their duties around assessment and oversight of those who operate RPAS within the United Kingdom. You will undertake and own critical technically oriented administrative tasks that enable our team to deliver for industry.

The ever-expanding application of RPAS in our society means that the CAA is constantly presented with novel operations from the RPAS community. Often the circumstances proposed may have no precedent and require that our Inspectors think creatively, problem solve and innovate new best practice solutions. This vital work assists the CAA in achieving its aims regarding RPAS, their safe use and the establishment of the UK as a world leader in the application of RPAS technology. As a Technical Support Officer, you will play an important role in supporting our Inspectors and Surveyors in this challenge.

About You

Minimum essential requirements for the role:

Must have experience in regulatory change, change management and/or the development of policy.

Ability to participate in audits of organisations against established procedures and requirements.

Must have experience of running meetings, including the management of agendas and minutes, and taking appropriate decisions on behalf of the team.

Must have experience of safety risk management systems and their application in an aviation context and be able to apply those principles to make informed decisions.

Must be able to communicate complex technical subject matter to a high standard.

Must be capable of using experience and judgment in making risk-based, proportionate, and consistent decisions.

Must be able to understand and analyse technical data.

Must be able to provide timely and effective responses to internal stakeholder demands.

Desirable skills for the role:

Audit experience.

Safety Management Systems experience.
