As we enter the second half of 2024, developers and publishers are now, once again, allowed to add title updates to their games. From the start of June, nearly 70 quick completions have been updated with easy 1,000G title updates, giving players tens of thousands of free and easy Gamerscore to snap up. For those unaware, updates like these first became popular several years ago when publisher Xitilon rolled out a plethora of title updates for several games in its back catalog. These patches didn’t actually include any new content for its games, but they did add new, short achievement lists worth 1,000G each for players to hunt down. The move seemingly split the achievement-hunting community, with some loving what can be seen as a pro-consumer move and others saying it devalues Gamerscore and makes a mockery of the Xbox achievements system. Numerous developers and publishers have since followed in Xitilon’s footsteps, adding 1,000G title updates to their games, both new and old, in the hopes of appealing to achievement hunters. As per Microsoft’s Xbox achievements rules, a developer is allowed to add up to 100 new achievements worth a maximum total of 1,000 Gamerscore once every six months between the “semi-annual” periods of January-June and July-December. New content does not have to be included with these updates. Now that developers and publishers are paying attention to these rules, we’ve started seeing a regular explosion of easy Gamerscore arrive via these updates, usually when those semi-annual limits for adding Gamerscore renew. In the past six weeks, a whopping 69,000 Gamerscore has been added across 66 games via easy title updates.Xbox games updated with easy 1,000G title updates in June/July 2024Interestingly, only a handful of these games are from publisher Eastasiasoft, which added over 30,000 Gamerscore in title updates back in January. Considering many of Eastasiasoft’s games have yet to hit the maximum 5,000G limit, it’s likely we’ll see even more Gamerscore added in free updates over the coming weeks. Back in 2023, Microsoft made big changes to Xbox achievement rules in a bid to try and stop the flood of easy Gamerscore titles hitting the Microsoft Store. While these changes may have prevented games similar to the infamous Aabs Animals from being published on Xbox, developers and publishers are still managing to slide around these rules with easy title updates.
