Atomos has announced an update for its Ninja V and Ninja V+ that brings new ProRes RAW Recording options for Canon’s EOS R5, Panasonic’s Lumix BS1H and legacy Sony FS series cinema cameras. AtomOS version 10.71 also adds support for Atomos’ new AtomX Cast hardware with the Ninja V+.
Canon EOS R5
On Canon’s EOS R5 mirrorless camera, AtomOS version 10.71 adds the ability to record up to 5K/30p (5088 x 2680 pixels) ProRes RAW on the Ninja V and up to 5K/60p or 8K/30p PreRes RAW on the Ninja V+. The update also adds slider adjustments for white balance and ISO Controls in Final Cut Pro X. Interestingly, these recording modes with the EOS R5 have a slew of caveats that Atomos specifically takes the time to mention.

First, if you trigger the recording via the camera’s record button, you’ll be limited to the 29:59 minute record time limit, whereas if you trigger the recording on the Ninja V/V+’s screen, you won’t have that limit. Atomos also suggests using the EOS R5’s ‘Standby: Low Res’ mode when recording RAW for extended periods of time to ensure you get the maximum recording time possible. Atomos also notes the Ninja V’s screen and enclosure ‘will get very warm during 5K ProRes RAW recording and says that while the unit is designed for this and has safety features to prevent overheating, you might want to exercise caution when using the device in areas with high ambient temperatures.
Below is a list of the record time limits of the EOS R5 when used with the Ninja V, based on storage space:
• 1TB @ 5K30 ProRes RAW HQ: 45 minutes
• 1TB @ 5K30 ProRes RAW: 61 minutes
• 500GB @ 5K30 ProRes RAW HQ: 22 minutes
• 500GB @ 5K30 ProRes RAW: 30 minutes
Panasonic Lumix BS1H

On Panasonic’s boxy Lumix BS1H camera system, AtomOS version version 10.71 brings new and improved shooting modes when paired with both the Ninja V and Ninja V+, as well as slider adjustments for White Balance and ISO controls in Final Cut Pro X. Below is a list of the ProRes RAW Recording modes with both the Ninja V and Ninja V+ when connected to a Lumix BS1H via HDMI:
• 5.9K (5888 x 3312) at 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p
• 4.1K (4128 x 2176) at 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50p, 59.94p
• 3.5K Anamorphic (3536 x 2656) at 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50p, 59.94p
Sony FS Series
Lastly, AtomOS version 10.71 adds a slew of new shooting modes to six of Sony’s FS series camera systems when paired with the company’s new Ninja V+ monitor/recorder with the SDI Module attached. Below is a breakdown of the new recording modes on each of the six cameras:
Sony FS5 (with RAW Upgrade) / FS5 II
• 4K (4096 x 2160) at 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p, 100p, 120p o 2K (2048 x 1080) at 100p, 120p, 200p, 240p
Sony FS700 (with RAW Upgrade) / FS700R
• 4K (4096 x 2160) at 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p, 100p, 120p o 2K (2048 x 1080) at 100p, 120p, 200p, 240p
Sony FS7 (with XDCA-FS7) / Sony FS7 II (with XDCA-FS7)
• 4K (4096 x 2160) at 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p
• 2K (2048x 1080) at 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p, 100p, 120p, 200p, 240p
Atomos clarifies the above asterisks, saying ‘4K at 100/120p is available in an S&Q burst mode which is buffered in the camera and output as a 60p signal.’
AtomX Cast

The AtomoOS 10.71 firmware update also makes it possible to use Atomos’ new AtomX Cast hardware with its new Ninja V+ monitor/recorder, turning it into a powerful livestreaming solution. Below are a list of other improvements the firmware update adds to the AtomX Cast when paired with both the Ninja V and Ninja V+:
• Introduction of “Dip to”-transitions, available in black & white. These can be automatically applied on each switch from one input to another.
• Addition of updated program recording options. Choose “Clean” to record a clean feed of the currently switched to input or use the new “CAST Program” mode. In CAST Program mode, graphical overlays and the picture in picture (PiP) get recorded onto the SSD/HDD inserted in the Ninja V. The recording contains the new “Dip to”-transitions as well as the Fade In/Fade Out buttons used to fade in or fade out of your program during recording.
• Interlaced signals are now supported. An automatic pulldown conversion gets applied to them, which then gets conformed to the Project Rate.
• Audio delay options are now available, which apply frame delays to all audio inputs including analog and embedded audio (calibrate feature not supported).
• General bug fixes.
