We hope you’ve had an interesting month making your way through the Talos I space station in this month’s TA Playlist game, Prey, but June is almost at an end, so it’s time to announce the July 2024 TA Playlist Game of the Month.By all accounts, Microsoft hit a home run with the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month, so for the July poll, we decided to pick games from four franchises that had big announcements or new trailers in the Showcase. To sweeten the deal, these are all Xbox first-party franchises which will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on day 1. All four games had a strong showing, and it was a tight back-and-forth race for first place, but in a somewhat surprising outcome, the winner and TA Playlist Game of the Month for 2024 is… Fable Anniversary!Fable made a big splash when it first launched on Xbox in 2004, and while it famously didn’t live up to quite all of the promises made by Lionhead Studios co-founder Peter Molynieux, it was still an excellent action RPG with a rich and vibrant setting and an interesting premise. The game was successful enough to spawn two mainline sequels, as well as several spinoffs and the game we’ll be playing in July, Fable Anniversary – published by Xbox Game Studios in 2014.Fable pioneered every player’s choice having a consequence. With Fable Anniversary, a spectacular HD remaster of the original Fable, players will be reminded of why the franchise is so special and unique. All new textures and 3D models, an entirely new lighting system, a slick new interface, achievements, and all of the content from “The Lost Chapters,” make Fable Anniversary the definitive Fable experience for faithful fans and new players alike!Fable Anniversary currently has a strong TA user rating of 4.11/5, and has been played by over 174,000 tracked gamers. Around 4% (just over 7,100 gamers) have gone on to unlock all 50 of the game’s achievements, however, that won’t be possible for any new players this month, as the “See the Future” achievement, which requires the discontinued Xbox 360 Smartglass app. Still, that leaves 49 other achievements that are available, and for the 20,000+ tracked gamers who already have the discontinued achievement but have not gone on to complete the game, maybe this is the push you’ll need. A walkthrough by Dang3R Gaming is available and estimates around 25 hours to unlock all available achievements. Here’s the full breakdown on the votes. We honestly weren’t sure that Fable would stand much of a chance, thanks to the discontinued achievement, and indeed, Gears of War took the early lead. Fable surged ahead after the first day or so, and it was a bit of a back-and-forth battle after that. When the dust cleared, Fable held on with a 12-vote lead over Gears, with DOOM and Perfect Dark (2010) running a consistent 3rd and 4th place, respectively. As always, you can earn your TA Playlist badge by unlocking any achievement in the game during the month of July or by posting a substantive comment in the Spoiler and Spoiler-Free threads that will be posted on July 1. NOTE: If you don’t want to start the game due to the discontinued achievement, we understand… that’s why we offer the forum posts as another way to participate in the monthly Playlist! But please offer a more substantive comment in the forum than simply “Won’t play because of the discontinued.” Surely you have some thoughts about the original Fable or the series as a whole that would be great to share with the community? Join in the discussion on the TA Playlist Hub to discuss your adventures in the mystical land of Albion!
