Following Microsoft’s decision to launch four of its Xbox exclusives on rival platforms, it was reported that the company was eyeing more Xbox games for PlayStation via a project codenamed Latitude. According to a recent report, Xbox’s flagship franchise Halo could head to PlayStation via Latitude, as well as several other Xbox exclusives.Halo, Age of Empires, and more could launch on PlayStationRecent reports from The Verge’s Tom Warren and Windows Central’s Jez Corden have suggested that Microsoft is considering several other Xbox exclusives for PlayStation consoles, although it’s understood the company doesn’t plan to go fully multiplatform at this time. Microsoft came under fire earlier this year when it was revealed that Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush would launch on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, but new rumors suggest Microsoft isn’t stopping there. After rumors originally suggested that Microsoft was planning to release the aforementioned games on rival platforms, Xbox boss Phil Spencer tempered expectations. “I don’t want to create a false expectation on those other platforms that this is somehow the first four to get over the dam and then the dam’s going to open and that everything else is coming, that’s not the plan today.” In line with Spencer’s previous comments, it appears Microsoft isn’t opening the floodgates and could be earmarking its games on a case-by-case basis for Project Latitude. According to The Verge, Microsoft’s flagship franchise, Halo, could be on the docket for a PlayStation release in the future. The report suggests Microsoft is developing a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster, which is being considered for a launch on rival platforms at some point. The report claims that Microsoft is currently weighing up whether or not to release Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, Age of Mythology Retold, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 on other consoles. Windows Central’s Jez Corden says, “I can confirm that games like Age of Mythology Retold, Avowed, South of Midnight, Hellblade 2, and even Starfield (at least as of June 2024) are, right now, not in active development for PlayStation.”As for the rumored Gears 6 reveal we could potentially see during the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, Both reports suggest it is still expected to remain an Xbox console exclusive. Doom: The Dark Ages, on the other hand, it is reported to be launching on PlayStation. It appears Microsoft is still very much in the planning stages of Project Latitude, so it’s unlikely we’ll hear much about its plans anytime soon. For now, though, we have the Summer Game Fest 2024 schedule to look forward, which kicks off later today.
