Excitement is building for players wanting to dive back into the Elden Ring achievements, as we’re mere weeks away from its highly-anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree release. Looking at the recent previews and the Shadow of the Erdtree details they uncover, we are in for another gargantuan adventure in the fantastic action-RPG. Elden Ring already comfortably holds a spot on our list of the best Xbox open-world games, and Shadow of the Erdtree could cement its position on the list further still. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree detailsWhen Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 21, Elden Ring players looking to dive into the new content will have to have defeated the Lord of Blood, Mohg, before embarking on the new adventure in the Realm of Shadow. FromSoftware has previously said that the Realm of Shadow will be roughly the same size as the base game’s starting area, Limgrave, but it appears that in reality, the area is far larger. It’ll also offer cliffs and canyons to put your navigation skills to the test, making it more intricate than the base game’s areas. When speaking to PC Gamer, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki says that the developer “wanted that sense of scale for this map, because we wanted an experience for the player that was going to match that of the base game. We wanted them to experience that sense of discovery, and that sense of wonder and exploration again. We needed a map that was going to uphold that and bolster that.”Once you make it to the Realm of Shadow, you’ll find yourself in an area called Gravesite Plain, Xbox Wire reports, which is apparently a welcoming location filled with walking dead, gravestones, mausoleums, and more. Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg for Elden Ring’s expansion, which includes dark woods, a settlement, castles, and more. “How dense this map is, and the ratio of legacy dungeon to open field areas, and how they intertwine,” Miyazaki said. “This is something we wanted to explore anew in the DLC: In terms of recapturing that sense of scale but in a slightly different way with a slightly different granularity.”FromSoftware is packing over ten full bosses and additional side bosses into Shadow of the Erdtree (Twin Moon Knight and Divine Beast Dancing Lion to name just a couple), along with over 100 new weapons and a new Martial Arts weapon type — we can expect new items by way of the Milady light greatsword, Oathseeker Knight armor, and many more. There are also stackable Scadutree Fragments, usable only in the Realm of Shadow, which helps you deal more damage while taking less damage thanks to the Scadutree Blessing. Shadow of the Erdtree sounds like it’s going to be an epic adventure, and a great send-off for Elden Ring fans, as FromSoftware has already confirmed that it will be Elden Ring’s only DLC — but a sequel is still a possibility.
