Most popular Xbox games — MultiVersus relaunch boosts it back into top 20

It was a big change for the top contenders in last week’s chart when Hellblade 2 (one of our long-awaited upcoming Xbox exclusives) and Ubisoft’s XDefiant shot straight into the top five, but our latest Xbox gameplay chart looks very different. While XDefiant has actually managed to move up one more spot to fourth, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II has dropped out of the top five — and the top ten — to land at 14th.Fallout 4 has just dropped out of the top ten to 11th, while just below Hellblade 2 we see Lords of the Fallen making its first appearance in the top 40 at 15th after joining Xbox Game Pass last week. Then there’s free-to-play fighting game MultiVersus, which has had quite the journey: its beta went offline in 2023 and the game was removed from the store as the team worked for a full release, which took place just last month. Now that it’s launched in full, MultiVersus has re-joined the top 40 at 19th.Fallout 76, Halo Infinite, Sea of Thieves, and Madden NFL 24 have all slipped this week, while Elden Ring has moved up by just one spot. FromSoftware’s excellent action-RPG usually fluctuates on the chart, but with its long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree expansion launching later this month, we’ll no doubt see the game rocket up the top 40 — especially since the DLC release date announcement alone was enough to see a 78% spike in Xbox players. Another Shadow of the Erdtree factor which might boost Elden Ring still more is that it will be Elden Ring’s only DLC, although a sequel is still a possibility.Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues to slide down the top 40, falling four places to 29th this week. It’s the sad fate of many Game Pass additions once they’ve been on the service for a while, especially with more games arriving all the time. Starfield, meanwhile, has seen a sizeable drop of nine spots to 32nd. The game’s 60fps update was enough to boost Xbox players by 72% but is several weeks old now, so those players are perhaps moving onto something else once more. Just below Starfield, Humanity makes its debut appearance in the top 40 at 33rd after joining Xbox Game Pass. It’s not such good news for Little Kitty, Big City, which has dropped 17 spots to 36th. The excellent indie game proved very popular when it launched into Game Pass, and managed to pick up 1 million Game Pass players, but it is a shorter experience, and its drop might be explained as more players finish up with it and move onto something else. Sitting at 40th this week, meanwhile, is NHL 24, which has fallen three places.Top 40 Xbox Gameplay Chart for the week ending June 2, 2024Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 2.4 million active Xbox accounts. However, we also have the whirlwind of Summer Game Fest and the long-awaited Xbox Games Showcase, and with all the events coming up, we’ll likely hear plenty of announcements for our list of upcoming Game pass games which will no doubt cause chaos on plenty of gameplay charts to come.
