Capcom has released a brand new Monster Hunter: Wilds trailer, offering a fresh look at the anticipated sequel while introducing several monsters. The trailer shown at Thursday’s State of Play stream featured a brand new cinematic look at the game, including a smattering of combat gameplay. We got a look at a number of weapons and their functions in combat, as well, including confirmation that all 14 weapon types are returning from previous games along with new actions. And we saw more of the game’s sandstorm-plagued biome, the Windward Plains. The new trailer represents the first big wave of monsters confirmed for Monster Hunter: Wilds. Brand new to the series are the Dalthydon, an herbivorous wyvern with a seasonal migration pattern, and Ceratonoth, who travel in herds so the males can protect the group from sandstorms with their lightning rod-like dorsal horns. There are big monsters, too, such as the fanged Doshaguma and the Chatacabra…a creature with a huge tongue and ridiculous saliva. Previously, Capcom has revealed Rathalos, which is one of the franchise’s main recurring monsters. Monter Hunter Wilds has players join a Research Commission team investigating a place called the Forbidden Lands, where they encounter new companions and a mysterious child integral to the plot somehow. New features in Wilds include full voice acting, seamless flow from story sequences to gameplay, and new mounts called Seikrets that let riders perform actions on the go such as sharpening weapons or gathering materials. Monster Hunter Wilds was first announced during The Game Awards 2023, where it was confirmed to be coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC. It is the follow-up to the wildly successful Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter: Rise, which have sold some 40 million units between them.As always, Monster Hunter: Wilds will pit up to four players against a host of fantastical and challenging beasts, with the latest game featuring a desert setting. Monster Hunter Wilds does not have a firm release date but is expected to be out sometime in 2025. Players who link Monster Hunter: World save data will receive special bonus items. In the meantime, several other games were revealed during the stream.
