We hope you’ve had a great month exploring the Capital Wasteland and nuking Super Mutants in this month’s TA Playlist game, Fallout 3, but the month is drawing to a close, so it’s time to announce the June 2024 TA Playlist Game of the Month. On the heels of the announcement that Microsoft is closing several studios under the Bethesda/Zenimax umbrella, we selected four games from recently-closed studios as a tribute for their previous work. Nominees included Saints Row, from Volition and Hi-Fi Rush and Ghostwire: Tokyo from Tango Gameworks, but the winner for the June 2024 TA Playlist game is Prey!Prey was developed by Arkane Austin, and published by Bethesda Softworks in 2017. Prey started development back in 2006 as a sequel to Prey (2006), which was developed by Venom Games and Human Head Studios. However, after the rights to the IP were transferred to Bethesda, the Prey name was applied to the new first-person shooter being developed by Arkane’s Austin studio, resulting in a reboot of the franchise that shared the name of the previous Prey, but very little else.In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. You are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens, and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station, your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities.Prey has an impressive TA user rating of 4.13/5 and has been played by over 170,000 tracked gamers, although less than 1% (around 950 tracked gamers) have gone on to get the full completion, which includes 48 achievements in the base game and ten more achievements in the Mooncrash DLC. The full completion is estimated to take 55-70 hours, though the walkthrough from SwelterinBeaver might help you shave some time off of that mark. The console version is on Xbox Game Pass, and a Windows stack of the game is also available on PC Game Pass. The standalone PvP mode, Prey: Typhon Hunter, will not count for Playlist participation, as it’s a separate game, not a DLC.Here’s the full breakdown of the votes. Prey jumped out to the early lead, and while Hi-Fi Rush maintained a close second during the voting, it never drew close enough to overtake the leader. Not surprisingly, given its popularity and user rating, Saints Row stayed in a distant fourth for the entire vote.As always, unlocking an achievement in either version will count toward your TA Playlist participation, as will posting in the Spoiler and Spoiler-Free threads that will be posted on June 1. Join in the discussion on the TA Playlist Hub to discuss your adventures as you try to survive the Talos I station. Good, substantive, and interesting comments might be featured in our Wrap-Up for the month, like the great discussion we had in the April Wrap-Up for Cocoon!
