In Dragon’s Dogma 2, there are a myriad of different missions you can complete, some more difficult than others. The A Game of Wits DD2 quest is one of them.
In this article, therefore, we will tell you everything you need to know to start this mission and what to do to complete it. Obviously, given the nature of the article, expect there to be spoilers, so read on just in case that doesn’t bother you.
A Game of Wits DD2 Quest Explained
Before telling you specifically what you need to do to complete this mission, let’s see in broad terms what it is. The A Game of Wits DD2 quest is one of those quests that is not affected by the passage of time, so this means you can complete it whenever you want. However, you must take into account that there are different outcomes.
Since the A Game of Wits DD2 quest will require you to correctly answer a series of riddles, you have no chance of making a mistake. In fact, in the case of a wrong answer, the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx will abandon your game and this will mean that you can no longer complete the riddles (and unlock the related trophy or achievement) for that game, but you will have to start a new one.
Consequently, if you don’t want to run into this problem, in this guide, we will provide you with the correct answers to the riddles that will be proposed to you. In case you don’t want to know the correct answer immediately, you can also opt to save in the cloud, so as to have another chance in case of an incorrect answer.
Locate the Sphinx at Mountain Shrine
The first thing to do in order to start this mission is to locate the Sphinx in Mountain Shrine. The best position from which to start to find this place is certainly Checkpoint Rest Town and from there you will have to continue east and then go north. Below is a map with the best route to follow to get to the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx location.
The Riddle of Eyes
Riddle: “Our eyes are our allies, yet oft do they betray, for eyes tell lies, so I advise, and thence do lead astray. Yet how will your eyes advise you? Venture through yonder door, and retrieve that which of greatest value.”
What you will have to do is basically find some valuable items inside a cave. Be careful because the road will not be easy at all, as there will be enemies and traps guarding it. In any case, one of the treasure chests is located right near the entrance, and inside it is the Sealing Phial, which is the item you will have to give to the Sphinx. Do not consume this item; otherwise, you will not be able to solve the riddle. Your reward will be a Wakestone.
The Riddle of Madness
Riddle: “Love is as twin to madness, they say. They are bound fast as night is to day. So bring forth your most beloved one to me, that I might gauge the depth of your insanity.”
In order to complete this riddle in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you will have to bring a character with whom you have started a romance to the Sphinx. There are several ways you can use, but the simplest one is certainly to use the Sealinh Phial that you obtained by solving the first riddle and choose a character.
Alternatively, if you have decided to play with the Thief, Fighter, or Warrior class, you can also bring this character to the position where the Sphinx is located. Finally, you can also make use of a port crystal positioned right near its location so that you can use it to transport the character. By completing this riddle, you will receive a Portcrystal.
The Riddle of Wisdom
Riddle: “The parent knows the child, yet the reverse is far from true. The child knows not the parent: such is the parent’s due. I am a lost child; for kinship do I yearn. So bring to me my “Parent”. that might better learn.”
In order to solve this riddle, you will have to enter the rift and find a Pawn called “SphinxFather”. Once found, take it directly to the Sphinx to complete the riddle and receive 1200 RC.
The Riddle of Conviction
Riddle: “Life is an enigma – a lender of mortal debt. Yet lighter pack makes fleeter foot and challenge nimbly met. So grant to me what you most prize, and thence elude your pondrous demise.”
This riddle is actually very simple to complete. All you have to do is give Sphinx any object and, even if it seems that nothing happens, in reality, it will duplicate it and give you another one.
The Riddle of Rumination
Riddle: “It’s ever the first we keep fond in our breast, and ever the first that eclipses the rest. You know of the Seeker’s Tokens, I trust? Those keepsakes of a fondly remembered journey? Yet where was it that you found your first? Retrace your steps, if you can – you might make a new discovery. Seven days, shall we say, ere you return? May your journey be a pleasant one.”
This riddle is not easy to solve, because you will have to remember the place where you collected your first Seeker’s Token. Go to that place and in the exact place where you collected the Seeker’s Token, there will be an item very similar to it but it is called Finder’s Token. Once found, return to Sphinx to show her the item. You will receive three Ferrystones as a reward.
Locate the Sphinx at Frontier Shrine
In order to complete the other five riddles and complete the A Game of Wits DD2 quest, you will have to move to another location. Indeed, after the completion of the first five riddles, the Sphinx will move to Frontier Shine. To get to this place, once again, we recommend starting from Checkpoint Rest Town and going west. Below, you can see the exact location.
The Riddle of Reunion
This is the easiest riddle to solve, as it will complete automatically once you find the location of the Sphinx. Nearby is a chest that you can open and receive a reward of 100,000 Gold.
The Riddle of Recollection
Riddle: “Now, questions beget questions, and I have one for you. How many riddles have you solved thus far? My memory fails me, you see. Remind me, and make it plain. Let yonder statues be your means. For every question aptly answered, bring one here before me.”
On the left of the Sphinx you can see that there are some stone statues. What you have to do is bring the right number of figurines that correspond to the riddles completed correctly up to that point. However, pay attention to the fact that the riddles in this second part of the A Game of Wits DD2 quest can be random, so take this aspect into consideration.
The Riddle of Contest
Riddle: “Though ours is a battle of wits, tests of mettle are more to your strength. Is that not so? Come, try your arm – though he shall be your opponent, not I. However, I am not one to be amused by a simple duel. Bear this ring into battle, that I might gauge your true strength.”
To complete this riddle, all you have to do is kill the enemy that will spawn on the right. You will receive the Ring of Ambition as a reward.
The Riddle of Futility
Riddle: “How easily the mind unravels! Some say it’s pain that does it best, others darkness – but I say neither. Rather, I say a mind cannot be more soundly broken than when it beholds its earnest efforts laid low in a single stroke. Could your survive such despair? We shall see. Here I have an amphora destine for Ser Maurits in Battahl. Deliver it to him, but beware; it’s rather fragile.”
Once you get this riddle, you will have to carry a vase to Mural Byway without breaking it. Here you will find an NPC near the Sphinx statue that you will have to talk to. Once you complete this task, you will get the Eternal Bond Ring as a reward. We advise you to make a save before leaving on your trip, so in case you break the vase you will have the opportunity to try again.
The Riddle of Differentiation
Riddle: “So vast is the world, and full of life; you are but one of many. Indeed, in the grand scheme, we are as distinct from one another as pebbles on a beach – yet we do so love to extol our differences. But are these differences so great? If you believe so, this next task should prove exceedingly simple. I seek this man. If men are so distinct, I’m sure you’ll find him in a trice.”
To complete this riddle, you will need to find Dante or Vergil. Dante is found in Checkpoint Rest town, while Vergil is found in Bakbattahl. Once found, you will have to take them to Sphinx. If your character is not a Thief, Fighter, or Warrior, you can make use of a Portcrystal. Once you complete this task, you will get a Whimsical Daydream as a reward.
Beat the Sphinx
Once you have completed all ten riddles, in order to complete the A Game of Wits DD2 quest, you will have to defeat the Sphinx. The battle will not be quick and easy, as this boss has four health bars that you will have to empty to defeat her. Once defeated, you will have finally completed the mission.
