Frogwares has just unveiled The Sinking City 2 as a Lovecraftian survival horror, coming to Xbox Series X|S in 2025! With the first game being a detective adventure, this is quite the change-up — perhaps we’ll see The Sinking City 2 taking a spot on the list of the best horror games on Xbox! For now, we can check out the brand-new trailer for an idea of the horror we’re in for.The Sinking City 2 announced for Xbox Series X|SAccording to that trailer, The Sinking City 2 is set “in an otherworldly rendition of Arkham in the 1920s United States.” Frogwares head of publishing Sergey Oganesyan expands on this in an Xbox Wire interview. “It’s mid-1920s America, as the country goes full steam ahead into the boom years after the First World War. But in some corners of the US, there is no glitz and glam. The city of Arkham (a name that should be familiar to most Lovecraft fans — and not to be confused by Batman fans) has been the victim of an ongoing flood of unknown, supernatural origins.” The Sinking City 2 features a city where the inhabitants have become “twisted and contorted” so that they have become resigned to the unnatural creatures lurking in the dark and decay — things like the Lovecraftian monsters the Deep Ones.It’s a shift from the first game, and Oganesyan talks about this in the Xbox Wire interview. “The Sinking City is one of our most successful titles, because of our stronger horror genre leanings and the setting. For us, it was kind of a breakthrough, and we are super excited to work on a full-scale horror game. We have created quite a few detective adventures in the past, so now we’re going to mix things up to keep doing what people love from us — meaning story-rich experiences — while still being able to evolve.”Frogwares previously had troubles with a legal battle with Bigben Interactive/Nacon which led to The Sinking City being delisted from stores such as Steam. In that interview, Oganesyan talks about the serious difficulties the studio faced while developing The Sinking City 2, as they “were in the early stages of pre-production on The Sinking City 2 when the war broke out in Ukraine in February 2022,” forcing development to stop. “Now that we know what we are capable of handling, have adapted to the situation as best as we can, and taken all the measures to ensure the stable workflow of our studio, we felt it was time to start up The Sinking City 2 again.” The Sinking City 2 comes to Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
