The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is a long way off—we already knew that—but it seems like there might be more to the story than a studio taking its time. According to the latest rumor from Rockstar Magazine, as translated by NeoGAF, the next Grand Theft Auto game is Rockstar’s most chaotic project yet in terms of development. Things are reportedly being changed constantly and GTA 6 development was even restarted at one point.According to rumors, Grand Theft Auto VI was originally due to be announced in 2020. Instead, it hasn’t even been officially announced at all, even as we’re reaching the end of 2021. Reportedly, the story and game elements have changed so many times since 2019 that the company has nothing concrete to show in a trailer or official announcement. The implication was that events over the past years meant the story has been changed, something that led to Rockstar Games co-founder and Vice President of Creative Dan Houser taking an extended break from the company, and eventually contributing to his departure. The report continues, saying that when he left Rockstar back in March 2020, development on Grand Theft Auto VI began all over again. The magazine described development on Grand Theft Auto VI as Rockstar’s most chaotic project yet, even worse than Red Dead Redemption or Grand Theft Auto IV. When questioned on this, the magazine didn’t elaborate any further. You can see the full French interview in the videos below:Grand Theft Auto VI is not due to be released until at least 2025, and even that’s not concrete. According to another rumor, this is because Rockstar is trying to avoid crunch conditions that have given the studio a bad reputation already, including 100-hour weeks, mandatory overtime, and fear tactics. Reports of this and the disruptive development process all remain unconfirmed at this time and Rockstar hasn’t commented on the rumors.Other comments made by the magazine suggested there wouldn’t be a remake of Grand Theft Auto IV, at least for the moment. It also suggests the release of Grand Theft Auto V for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S could be delayed again to April or May 2022. The new (new) gen version of the 2013 title has already been delayed until March 2022 for unknown reasons.[Source: Rockstar Magazine via NeoGAF]
