A North American heavyweight side has failed to progress beyond the BetBoom Dacha 2024 Dubai qualifiers

The BetBoom Dacha 2024 Dubai closed qualifier for North America (NA) and South America (SA) wrapped up on January 11th. It was an eight-team brawl with only one main event spot up for grabs. Four of these teams received direct invitations, while the rest clawed their way through open qualifiers. Surprisingly, one of the four direct invitees, initially considered strong contenders to advance through the qualifiers, was eliminated as early as the lower brackets.

BetBoom Dacha 2024 Dubai Closed Qualifiers NA and SA Region: Who Dropped Out?

North American big dog Shopify Rebellion stumbled in the BetBoom Dacha Dubai qualifier, bowing out to underdogs Heroic in a lower bracket final encounter.

Shopify Rebellion, one of the invited powerhouses, entered the BetBoom Dacha Dubai qualifier with a swagger. They effortlessly demolished DuBu in the upper bracket quarterfinals, sending a strong message to their rivals. Against nouns in the semis, however, their dominance faltered. Former Shopify Rebellion man Tal “Fly” Aizik led his new side to a 2-1 victory and condemned his old employers to the lower bracket.

The DreamLeague Season 21 runner-ups responded with two effortless victories to march their way into the Lower Bracket Final. Their fortunes took a turn for the worse, however, as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat in the final against a newly formed Heroic side.

Arteezy’s Trophy Drought Continues

Shopify Rebellion’s carry, Artour “Arteezy” Babaev, has been seeking a Tier 1 tournament win since 2017. The contrast between Arteezy’s EG days and his present predicament is stark. Back then, Tier 1 trophies graced his cabinet with glittering regularity. Now, with Shopify Rebellion, the climb seems steeper, but the victories are smaller.

His last success in this category was with EG at The Manila Masters. Since joining Shopify Rebellion, the team has claimed victory in only two tournaments, both falling into the Tier 2 tier. Shopify’s performance at The International 2023 was disheartening, securing a 13th-16th standing.

It was genuinely surprising to witness Shopify Rebellion’s defeats against teams such as Heroic and nouns. Heroic, more famous for their Counter-Strike heroics, entered the Dota landscape on January 4, 2024. Similarly, nouns recently underwent a comprehensive roster overhaul and currently lacks a mid-laner on its official roster. For the tournament, the team enlisted Daniel “Stormstormer” Schoetzau from Entity as a stand-in.
