Rumours have been floating around about a Smash Bros.-style fighter from Warner Bros. known as Multiversus, and we may have just had our first peek at the unannounced game via a leaked character select screen. Many familiar faces from the Gaming Rumour Mill including Jeff Grubb and Nibellion have been teasing info about Multiversus for a little while now, but today, Smash pro Hungrybox took things a step further by posting what is apparently the character select screen from an early build of the fighter. These kinds of things get faked all the time, so keep that pinch of salt handy, but the relatively coherent art style certainly makes it feel believable enough. Adding to its credibility is the fact that Hungrybox’s video on the topic (which showed and discussed the supposed leak) was quickly pulled by Warner Bros. on copyright grounds, so it seems like this might indeed be the real deal. If it is legit, we’ve got the makings of a pretty fun roster here already. The top-left slot in the image is seemingly an original character, but most of the others should be familiar to a lot of folks — Steven Universe, Batman, Harley Quinn, Finn and Jake from Adventure Time, Scooby Doo’s Shaggy (star of many a WB fighting game meme already), Superman, Wonder Woman, Gandalf, Rick Sanchez (sans Morty), Bugs Bunny, and Tom & Jerry. Character icons also sport numbers which could be character levels, as well as icons that seem to suggest play styles, hinting at brawler, weapon-based, mobile, ranged, and defensive character archetypes.Reports seem to suggest that the fighter may be more like Brawlhalla than Smash, and that it could even follow in the free-to-play footsteps of the Ubisoft platform fighter. Which already features both Adventure Time and Steven Universe crossovers, so that might be awkward. As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate welcomes its final DLC character in Kingdom Hearts’ Sora, it’s certainly a good time to get in on the popular genre, as we’ve seen already with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl launching just a few weeks ago. Perhaps we’ll find out for sure if these rumours are true at The Game Awards a little later in the year — the show seems the perfect kind of place to announce a game like this, after all. What do you reckon — real or fake? And who from the millions of possible WB characters would you like to see make the cut? Get over here and have your say!
