Dota 2 Streamer Banned Live After Opening the Frostivus Chest from Valve. Here is what you’ve missed.
As reported yesterday, we were just one day away from the arrival of Frostivus 2023. The chest arrived yesterday, as well as many other important changes, but what’s interesting is that some players did not receive the surprise they wanted.

In a Tweet that has gone viral, a famous Dota 2 streamer was super excited to open his Frostivus 2023 chest. In fact, someone asked him in the chat “what did you get from the gift chest”, which was when he decided to check.
Even though he was probably expecting a cool set, the Dota 2 Streamer got a season reward called “Highly Toxic Lump of Coal”. When reading the description, it said “Your Dota account has been permanently banned for Smurfing, or other violations of the Steam Terms of Service.” In other words, this is the Dota 2 coal that you do not want to have.
Mason seemed shocked at first and thought that it was a joke, but after testing the “Play Dota” option, it turned out that he was permanently banned. In fact, his matchmaking option is disabled until 1/18/2038, which is pretty much a permanent ban.
What’s interesting is that Mason admitted after what happened that he has been using a service that boosts his behavior score. This is common in Dota 2 because Valve took action against people with a low behavior core, meaning players are doing everything they can to avoid it.
Besides the Dota 2 streamer Mason, many other players also got Dota 2 coal for Christmas. Hopefully, this will teach them a lesson, and they will stop ruining other players’ fun.
Frostivus 2023 Gift
It seems like Valve has been paying attention and decided to reward the “naughty” players. Those who’ve been good received a lot of amazing gifts, including new sets, but others weren’t so lucky.
Reportedly, the gift that players get, like the Dota 2 coal, depends on their behavior score. In fact, Valve said in a blog post that it has been monitoring its players and it will take action against those who ruin the fun for others.
