Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish has just kicked off but, after “monitoring the conversation around what you’ve been enjoying and what you haven’t,” Bungie has now removed its Starter Pack from stores.Season of the Wish brought with it new activities, rewards, challenges, and more. It also brought with it a new Starter Pack. This Starter Pack, which cost around $15 for the brief time it was available, included three Exotic weapons, cosmetics, and items like 50 Enhancement Cores and an Ascendant Shard. It also went down like a lead balloon. If you take a stroll down the Starter Pack discussion in the Destiny 2 subreddit and the Destiny The Game subreddit, for instance, you’ll see some of the frustration from players (including those who tagged the pack as “crime,” “capitalism,” and “psychological horror” on Steam). Most were frustrated that the pack was selling things like exotics and resources at all. Others seemingly lamented that new players, who the pack was aimed at, wouldn’t yet have the background knowledge to know whether the pack was actually worthwhile or not before buying — a particularly sore spot since the experience for new players still seems to be a bone of contention for Destiny 2. Bungie says it has monitoring what’s being enjoyed by players. “We’ll start things off with the Starter Pack, which is not something bringing joy. Which is why we’ve pulled it from stores.” The team goes on to add, “We’ve heard your concerns and agreed that there are other parts of Destiny 2 that new players should want to dive into first before chasing these Exotic weapons, cosmetics, and upgrade materials.”Looking ahead, Bungie has delayed The Final Shape expansion until June. Earlier in the month, Bungie shared a statement admitting it had “lost a lot of your trust” recently. Just before that was another blow, with Bungie hit by layoffs. It’s been a tumultuous time for the game and the studio — we’ll keep an eye out for more news.
