The new Pokémon anime, Pokémon Horizons: The Series, will make its U.S. debut on Feb. 23, 2024, exclusively on Netflix, The Pokémon Company announced Wednesday. That’s just a few days ahead of Pokémon Day, the annual celebration of all things Pokémon.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series features a new storyline with new trainers. Dual protagonists Liko and Roy adventure with their partner Pokémon Sprigatito and Fuecoco, with a little help from allies Friede and Captain Pikachu. (That Pikachu’s the captain of an airship, you see, and part of an adventure group named the Rising Volt Tacklers.)

Liko is a new student at Indigo Academy, and partnered with Sprigatito, one of the new starters introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Joining Liko on her journey of discovery is Roy, a wannabe Pokémon trainer who carries an ancient Poké Ball and friend of Fuecoco. Our heroes are chased by a group known as the Explorers who, at the very least, want Liko’s mysterious pendant necklace.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series started airing in Japan in April. Thirty episodes have been released thus far. Pokémon Horizons is the successor to the long-running Pokémon anime that starred Ash and his pal Pikachu. That series came to an end with Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series, which wrapped up Ash’s 25-year journey to become the No. 1-ranked trainer in the show’s world.

Prior to Pokémon Horizons: The Series’ Netflix debut, the streamer will release a separate animated series, Pokémon Concierge, in December. The stop-motion animated series is being produced by Dwarf Studios, the studio behind the adorable Rilakkuma and Kaoru.
