Geoff Keighley will be taking the stage at The Game Awards next week, December 7, for the premiere gaming show of the season. Ahead of the big event, Microsoft has teased that it will have some Xbox news for fans to look forward to.”Celebrate the year’s best games and the big winners live at The Game Awards on December 7,” Microsoft says in an email sent to fans. “Along with major announcements and more Xbox news you won’t want to miss!”The Game Awards has revealed all of the games nominated for accolades this year — you can play 10 of the nominated games via Xbox Game Pass — and Microsoft’s first-party studios have earned nominations for Hi-Fi Rush, Starfield, Forza Motorsport, and more. While it’s always exciting to see our favorite games earn the recognition they deserve, The Game Awards is also a great time to catch huge announcements for all platforms. Back in 2019, Microsoft actually revealed the Xbox Series X alongside Hellblade 2: Senua’s Sacrifice during the show, and with the leak earlier this year that suggested Xbox Series X|S mid-gen refreshes could arrive in 2024, there is a possibility that we see an official reveal during this year’s show. While the leaked document suggests that Microsoft planned to announce the new consoles in July, there is a possibility the company might capitalize on the leak and surprise us next week.Looking at the recent Xbox Store listing for Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition, we could potentially see a shadow drop arrive during The Game Awards from Ubisoft as well. As for confirmed announcements, however, Larian Studios has said that it will be announcing the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date during the show, so if you’re looking forward to diving into the RPG, it could be worth keeping an eye out for that!
