Killer Instinct is celebrating its tenth birthday with the release of the Killer Instinct: Anniversary Edition, which will be available as a standalone purchase or as a free upgrade for Definitive Edition owners. As announced by Iron Galaxy, Killer Instinct: Anniversary Edition is poised to replace the Definitive Edition on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC soon. It’ll be available to purchase from the Xbox Store for $29.99, or a free upgrade for all owners of the Definitive Edition. The new Anniversary variant will include 29 fighters and almost all premium Killer Instinct content. Some mature-rated content — like the Definitive Edition app, Xbox KI Classic 1 and 2 — won’t be available in the Anniversary edition, though current Definitive Edition owners will keep all their existing content, including the mature stuff. When the Anniversary Edition launches, the Killer Instinct base game will go free-to-play for all players on Steam, offering one free weekly rotating fighter and the single-player, local, and ranked gamed modes. Iron Galaxy is removing the ability to purchase fighters individually, so to increase your roster size, it looks like you’ll need to purchase the full Anniversary Edition to get access to the full range of base characters if you’re playing the free version on Xbox or PC.We’ll let know when Iron Galaxy reveals Killer Instinct: Anniversary Edition’s release date, but it is in the final testing phase now, so we shouldn’t be waiting too long. We doubt that new Killer Instinct achievements will be added with the update, but again, you can be sure that we’ll keep you updated. Now, let’s hope news about a Killer Instinct sequel will arrive at some point… we deserve it, right?
