Modern Warfare 3’s “pay-to-win” Gaia skin to be removed and nerfed

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Gaia Operator skin, which is actually a Modern Warfare 2 skin that made it across to the new game, will soon be temporarily removed from Modern Warfare 3 while Sledgehammer works to make it more visible. Since the alternate costume for the Nova Operator was introduced to Modern Warfare 2 in late December, Call of Duty players have criticized the tree-like Gaia skin as it easily blends in with most backgrounds and can be tricky to spot. While tweaks have been made to the skin in the past, it seems that these were not enough, as Sledgehammer has confirmed it will be making further adjustments to Gaia. During a recent multiplayer-focused Reddit AMA, Sledgehammer was asked what it was going to do about the “Gaia skin and the problems it has brought forward to MW3 from MW2?” Sledgehammer confirmed that changes were on the way, which will be welcome news for all players who keep getting caught out by the cosmetic.”Adjustments to Gaia and Gaia Blackcell Operator Skins are in the pipeline for Modern Warfare III,” Sledgehammer said. “In a future game update, we’ll disable this item until said changes can be released to all players.”Elsewhere during the AMA, Sledgehammer confirmed that it will also be testing non-disbanding lobbies, is investigating a reduction to the maximum damage of frag grenades, has HUD and final kill cam fixes coming for Hardcore Multiplayer, and is looking to make further server and game performance improvements. In our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 review, we found that the multiplayer was improved over its predecessor but relied too heavily on older maps for that nostalgia hit. Sadly, the campaign and the new DMZ-like Zombies mode were also a bit of a bust.
