Canon has announced the RF-S 10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM, a wide-angle zoom lens delivering a full-frame equivalent of 16-29mm on Canon’s RF-mount APS-C cameras.
Canon tells us this lens has an all-new optical design and is not based on any previous EF-S or M-mount lens. It’s intended to be an affordable, wide-angle zoom for casual or advanced amateur users, including photographers, video shooters, and vloggers.

The lens has a collapsible design, allowing for its compact size, but Canon says that it only requires a soft click to unlock, unlike some previous designs. It includes Canon’s Super Spectra Coating to reduce ghosting and flare. Its design is consistent with the retractable RF-S 18-45mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM that’s kitted with several of Canon’s recent APS-C RF models.

In-lens image stabilization is included, providing four stops of optical stabilization and up to six stops when combined with in-camera stabilization. AF is driven by a single STM motor, supporting a lightweight design and smooth AF when shooting video. A lens hood is not included but is available as an option.
The RF-S 10-18mm F4.5-6.3 is expected to be available in December at a retail price of $329.
