Coming off the heels of Sonic Superstars, the original team blue SEGA shared an update on things still to come, namely it’s first game in a new “Super Game” project.SEGA co-chief operating officer Shuji Utsumi says these titles are so big, they AAA games that “go beyond the traditional framework of games,” and while we won’t get to see what that means anytime soon likely, we can be heartened to know the company’s very first super game is making “steady headway.”President of SEGA Yukio Sugino provided the update in its annual integrated report, and says that this game ought to be ready by the end of its March 2026 fiscal year.“The Entertainment Contents Business has set a long-term goal of becoming a leading global content provider. To achieve this goal and elevate the business to the next level, we are conducting R&D (Research & Development) activities to create a ‘Super Game,’ a major title that scales globally, by the fiscal year ending March 2026.”Calling something a “Super Game” can itself give the impression that players ought to have a certain expectation for this title, but SEGA speaks about it like it really is going to be better than when games figured out how to slice bread.“We are also making steady headway in development of the ‘Super Game’ that we are seeking to create in the medium to long term. As the name implies, a ‘Super Game’ involves the concept of a game that stands head and shoulders above normal games.” added Utsumi. He continued, “I encourage stakeholders to look forward to the fruit of our efforts, which include R&D to create a game that builds a whole worldview involving the entire gaming ecosystem, including not only players but also streamers who stream the game and their viewers.”Of course this could all just be bravado for the publishers stakeholders, and what we get in the end might not excite players in the way SEGA had hoped. At this point though it’s still a ways off, who knows what this will look like when it’s finally ready.Source – [SEGA via VGC]
