At the Pokémon VGC Toronto Regional, Chuppa Cross finally took his place at the top.

After almost a decade of competitive play, Chuppa Cross has finally gone from a recognizable name to a Regional Champion.

Chuppa Cross IV

It was just last month that we got to catch up with Chuppa Cross at the Pittsburgh Regional. We had spoken to him about the upcoming Regulation E format, and it turns out he really knew what he was talking about. After about ten years of National Championships, Regionals, Internationals, and even World Championships, Chuppa Cross has finally earned himself a Championship at the Pokémon VGC Toronto Regional. With three 2nd place Regional finishes through the years, we had all been waiting for this moment. Finally, we can all recognize one of the most recognizable players as a Regional Champion.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” This team mirrors the kinds of teams seen in Regulation D play, utilizing mostly the Hyper-Offensive Pokémon from that Regulation and pairing them with enablers like Tornadus and Rillaboom who pack some offensive power of their own. Chuppa notably did not bring Ogerpon who was thought to be one of the strongest Pokémon in the Regulation during the Pokémon VGC Toronto Regional, only to be outshined by the already powerful staples. A Hyper-Offense team can only perform at the highest level with a champion class pilot like Chuppa Cross.

Congratulations Chuppa!

Chuppa had to defeat a former champion to make it to the top of the Pokémon VGC Toronto Regional. It was no easy road, but Chuppa had all the tools and experience to grab himself a long-deserved win. He has now locked in a slot at the 2024 Pokémon World Championship in Honolulu, Hawaii, and we will likely see him plenty more this season, perhaps taking more victories along the way.
