In the wake of Epic Games laying off 16% of its workforce, reports have now appeared that part of the layoff included a huge amount of the people at Mediatonic, the developers behind Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.Fall Guys began as a new indie title from Mediatonic published by Devolver Digital, and took the industry by storm when it launched. Its adorable visuals and bean-shaped characters along with a great social presence helped it amass a huge community very quickly.Today however, it’s a darker cloud than ever before over Mediatonic. Former director and writer at Mediatonic who was hit by the layoffs, Ed Fear describes Mediatonic today as “decimated”https://x.com/edfear/status/1707454892900491620?s=20In an industry where live service games almost never survive, Mediatonic had done it, broken through by breaking the mold of what battle royale games looked liked, and that was even before it went free-to-play.That a huge chunk of the team was hit by these layoffs is very upsetting to see, and hopefully those affected will be able to land on their feet.Source – [Insider Gaming, Bloomberg]
