Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive role-playing game composed of 3 acts, and the first one involves rescuing a very important NPC (and future companion) from the Absolute’s armies.
Halsin is the First Druid of the Emerald Grove, which is besieged by a mysterious goblin army during the first hours of your playthrough. Stopping the Tiefling refugees from being banished from the druid base is the main quest in Act 1, and the first mission you’re going to receive is to find their last caretaker.

How to Find Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3
First, head north from the starting area to reach the Emerald Grove environs waypoint. From there, head further north until you get a cutscene. Defend the Emerald Grove from the goblin attack.
Once you gain passage into the sanctuary, you’ll eventually receive a quest from Nettie inside the Druid Grove concerning Archdruid Halsin’s return. Since you’re looking for a cure for the parasite, it’s only natural to look for the best healer around.
Where to Find Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3
During Act 1, you’ll find Halsin imprisoned in the Shattered Sanctum within the Goblin Camp. Head west from the grove to find the Blighted Village, then head north to find the Goblin Camp
Deal with the guards before entering the camp (you can convince, kill them or sneak around them). From there, you’ll find a set of heavy oak doors guarded by an ogre. Enter to find the Shattered Sanctum.
Make your way further into the desecrated temple until you meet Princess Gut. From there, climb the stairs to the right. You’ll find a man tied to a rack being tormented by his goblin captors. Save him, or leave him to perish.
Near the rack, you’ll find a rickety wooden bridge to the right that leads to a chamber with a few goblins and 4 stone coffins. Enter the door ahead to reach the Worg Pens. Approach the cage to the right to find a familiar-looking bear. Help the bear kill all of the enemies in the area, and Halsin will reveal himself as the First Druid.
How to Get Halsin as a Companion
When you free Halsin from his cage, he’ll offer to aid you in killing all of the enemies inside the goblin camp. However, he’ll be staying in his bear form as a temporary companion, and will attack enemies on sight. Alternatively, you can leave him before entering an area if you want to resolve conflicts with a silver tongue.
You won’t be able to get Halsin as a true companion until you get to Act 2. However, the First Druid will be joining your camp after the main quest to share information about the Shadow Curse, and the main cause of it.
