Adding to the list of celebrities we’ll be fighting when collecting the Mortal Kombat 1 achievements when the game launches on Xbox Series X|S on September 19, NetherRealm has announced that Megan Fox will portray the vampire Nitara. Additionally, series co-creator Ed Boon has revealed that Jean-Claude Van Damme won’t only be offering his likeness for the Premium Edition Johnny Cage skin, but also voicing the character. Megan Fox joins Mortal Kombat 1 as NitaraWith her cameo appearance in Mortal Kombat 11 aside, the last time we saw vampiric heroine Nitara in a Mortal Kombat game was 2006’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, but after a 17-year hiatus, she’ll be returning as a playable character, portrayed by actress Megan Fox. Nitara puts her claws, fangs, and aerial maneuvers to good use in the trailer above as she fights to protect her kin residing in the dark realm of Vaeternus. “I grew up playing Mortal Kombat and I can’t believe that I’m voicing a character in the new game,” Fox said in the press release. “It’s an honor to be a part of one of the greatest video game legacies of all time.“Fox joins the likes of J.K. Simmons, Antony Starr, and John Cena in Mortal Kombat 1, who play Invincibles’ Omni-Man, The Boys’ Homelander, and Suicide Squad’s Peacemaker respectively for the first post-launch Kombat Pack (Nitara looks to be a base game character). Jean-Claude Van Damme voices Johnny CageNetherRealm had already revealed that Jean-Claude Van Damme will be appearing in Mortal Kombat 1 as an alternative skin for Johnny Cage, which is available with the premium edition of the game, but Ed Boon has revealed that the martial artist will also be voicing the character. While appearing on Hot Ones (via GamesRadar+) and chowing down on some hot wings, the series co-creator gave us a sneak peek at the upcoming character, calling it a “full circle” moment, as Johnny Cage was originally based on Van Damme.”When we made the very first game, our original intention was to make Van Damme: The Arcade Game. We wanted to see the word Van Damme up there. We called his people and were like, ‘We want to make a game based on Van Damme,'” Boon said. “I don’t know if he declined or never got to it, but again, this is a couple of 20-something-year-old kids who wanted to make a video game. I can see how Van Damme would go, ‘No, we’re not doing this.’ We tried a number of times going back and forth with him. This time we hit the lottery and we got him. We actually have his voice, he’s gonna be the Johnny Cage character. It’s the absolute full-circle moment.” Mortal Kombat 1 is just around the corner, but if you need a dose of blood, sweat, and fatalities now, Mortal Kombat 11 is available alongside some of the best games on Game Pass.
