Starfield Planet Traits: How to Find Them

It’s no secret by now that Starfield gives you the chance to explore its game universe far and wide, made up of 1,000 planets. On these planets, there are many resources and materials to discover, which will prove to be very useful during your adventure, as well as the Starfield planet traits which usually represent geographical or environmental features that must be discovered during your expeditions. In this article, therefore, we have decided to create a guide that explains what they are and how to find them.

What are planet traits in Starfield?

Although the description of the game is not so exhaustive in this regard, we can say that planet traits are nothing more than geographical or environmental features that become points of interest as soon as you discover them during your exploration of the game world. Each planet usually has a maximum of three planet traits that must be discovered in order to have a more comprehensive knowledge of the planet (just scanning the flora, fauna, and resources is not enough to know every little detail and mystery that hides in these alien worlds).

Often they are more or less vast areas in which you can witness mutations or encounters of various kinds: enemies, friendly survivalists, or researchers who need help. In addition, you will also find a lot of loot such as piles of items to collect or flora to harvest. Visually we can say that these are features that add a unique touch to the landscape that surrounds them and, more often than not, it is a nice glance thought by the developers.

Another tip we can give you is to spend points to improve the Astrophysics skill, found in the Science skills. As you increase the Rank of this skill, you will have more and more chances to discover planet traits, until you reach the last Rank where the chance will be 50% more and with a range of 30 light years. As a result, if discovering planet traits is something you want to do with a lot of dedication, focusing on improving this ability can definitely be the right choice to make.

How to find planet traits

Once you’re right at your destination on the planet of your choice, all you have to do is open your scanner (here’s a quick guide on how to scan in Starfield) and search the horizon for symbols that relate to points of interest. Specifically, in this case, we advise you to give priority to icons that look like map points or waveforms, since these places of interest are places of anomalies and are therefore more likely to be planet traits.

Once you have identified the point to go to and have arrived on site, all you have to do is scan the main source from which the anomaly derives (keep in mind that it may be one or more objectives). For example, a microbial hive might have several spots that need to be scanned, while the tip of a glacier might have only a few. Ultimately, it really depends on the type of geological or environmental feature you are inspecting.

Once you have scanned every single possible target, this will allow you to have the point of interest added as a planet trait. One thing to keep in mind is the fact that if you have several planet traits that need to be scanned, the game will not allow you to scan the same type of anomaly, even if you find it anywhere else on the planet. So, if you always come across the same type of anomaly, our advice is to head towards the different unknown symbols that appear on the map, or you can also choose to go to a different biome since each type of biome could have different types of anomalies.
