Sony has rolled out PlayStation 5 firmware update 21.02-04.02.00, which “improves system performance.” No further information was made available, but it won’t be long before users start noticing even the most minute changes. For now, you can download the 900 MB stability update via your console or a USB.Sony recently published an interview with Hideaki Nishino – Senior Vice President of Platform Experience – on the PlayStation Blog, offering rare insight into the process of designing a firmware update. According to Nishino, Sony often releases smaller updates to change the UX behavior.“Our updates aren’t just about the [major] firmware updates,” he explained. “If you carefully look at the PS5 system, over the network we are changing the UX behavior quite often. Sometimes we do some customization for a certain group of people to see how these features are used. So, it’s dynamic now.”Nishino also teased “exciting” new firmware updates going forward.“When I look back at the list of things we need to do, there’s a lot,” Nishino said. “There’s a lot the community is asking for as well. I want to say in the Japanese way, I’m diligently working on these lists and there will be more coming out in the future. I also want to say thank you to the community. We are not just whiteboarding our desired features. We work for customer needs. We really want to solve the problem in a delightful manner. That’s our core passion. We are here for the PlayStation [fans].”September’s firmware update brought with it the much-awaited ability to expand PS5’s internal storage as well as numerous other UX, social, gaming, and app enhancements.
