Randy Pitchford has stepped down as CEO of Gearbox Software, in favour of his new role as CEO and president of Gearbox Entertainment, the company’s TV and film division. The Borderlands developer will now be led by 22-year Gearbox veteran, Steve Jones, who was previously Gearbox’s chief technology officer (thanks, gamesindustry.biz). Jones has also had experience as the technical director of the first two Borderlands games, so he’s certainly no stranger to the series. This switch will allow Pitchford to focus on growing the TV and film division, Gearbox Entertainment, which is currently working on the Borderlands movie. Pitchford will continue to “lend his institutional knowledge of Gearbox brands and franchises” to Gearbox Software. After Gearbox Entertainment’s acquisition early this year by Embracer Group, the company is now split into three divisions: Gearbox Software, led by Steve Jones, Gearbox Entertainment, led by Randy Pitchford, and Gearbox Publishing, led by Steve Gibson.
