The college football schedule this week is highlighted by Georgia vs. Arkansas, Ole Miss vs. No. 1 Alabama and Cincinnati vs. Notre Dame but there are plenty more games worth watching.
There are plenty of opportunities for underdogs to pull off upsets this weekend. For now, though, we’ll focus on a few of the headline games.
Early in the day, we get to watch No. 8 Arkansas at No. 2 Georgia. The Razorbacks haven’t played a defense as good as Georgia’s yet, and the Bulldogs look like they are starting to put it together on offense, although against Vandy, it’s tough to say. For those reasons, there aren’t many predictive models that have Arkansas with any better than a 15 percent chance at winning. Bulldogs should roll.
Also at noon, No. 14 Michigan has a chance to make a statement against Wisconsin, while the badgers are looking to right the ship after a rough start to the season. This one should be closer than Arkansas/Georgia, but maybe not more exciting. Both teams are leaning heavily on the run so far. Nevertheless, the Wolverines will pull it out in gambling, if not statistical, upset.
At 2:30, lining up perfectly with 3:30 games ensuring you something to watch at half-time of either time-slot’s games, is the biggest put-up-or-shut-up game we’ve seen in some time. On the one hand, we have the team college football loves to hate in Notre Dame. On the other, we have the team pollsters hate to love in Cincinnati. Various predictive models have this game as either a slight edge to Notre Dame or as close as a coin toss. When games are this close, it’s fun to (1) root for the underdog and (2) pick the team for which it means more. In this case, that Cincinnati.
At the 3:30 slot, we have No. 12 Ole Miss at No. 1 Alabama. Florida showed that Alabama is far from a perfect team. While Ole Miss has a more efficient offense than Florida, it doesn’t seem likely that they will have the same success in slowing down the Tide on defense. Roll Tide, Roll.
Closing out the SEC’s ranked games will be the day’s second least surprising upset. LSU will lean on their home crowd and take advantage of the shaky quarterback play on No. 22 Auburn.
We have a whole bunch of exciting games this week. Let’s check out where you can catch each of the matchups.
